The American Dental Association estimates that 12 to 14 million people, or one-third of the population in the United States, have diabetes, but only one-half of these individuals are diagnosed. Studies have shown that diabetics are more susceptible to the development of oral infections and periodontal disease than those who do not have diabetes.

Does your practice accept my insurance coverage?

As a courtesy to our patients, our practice will bill your insurance for the treatment you receive. The balance that remains unpaid by the insurance company is the responsibility of the patient. It is important to us that our patients understand that we submit to most insurance companies but we only participate with one. This company is Delta Dental. All other companies consider us an out of network practice. There are some occurrences in which we submit your treatment to the insurance and the reimbursement check is delivered to the patient and not our office. If this occurs, the patient is responsible for paying for the services as they are rendered. If you have questions regarding these issues, contact your insurance company to review your benefits.

At what age should I start bringing my children to your office?

Children are more then welcome in our office and Dr. Trzaska and the Staff will go to great lengths to ensure that each child’s experience is a positive one. Our office recommends that the parent or guardian of the child bring them to one of their own dental cleanings around the age of three. This experience will help to acclimate the child with the dental environment and see that the experience is positive. If the child is ready and willing, the hygienist can begin regular treatment and cleanings. If the child is in need of a pediatric dental office, Dr Trzaska and staff will gladly refer them.

Why is it necessary for me to have dental cleanings every 3 or 4 months instead of 6?

There are several reasons that your hygienist and dentist may recommend that patients come more often then 6 months. The bacteria that cause periodontal diseases re-establish in the mouth in 3 months after treatment. The 3 or 4-month recare visit is critical to disrupting these bacteria, which has been proven to affect not just your oral health but your overall health. If you have further questions regarding these recommendations feel free to ask Dr. Trzaska or the hygienists.

Will payment be due at the end of my appointment?

YES. Payment is due at the time that services are rendered. Our practice accepts; cash, checks, Mastercard, Visa and Discover. As a courtesy to our patients we submit to your insurances and do bill for the remaining balance. For more expensive treatments that require several appointments, the balance can be split and paid for at the beginning and end of the procedure.

Are x-rays really necessary for treatment?

Yes. X-rays allow the clinician to examine areas that are not visible to the naked eye. We recommend bitewing x-rays or cavity check x-rays be done yearly and a panoramic x-ray done every 5 years. These x-rays are the best tool for diagnoses of decay, infections, cysts, abnormalities and some tumors. Taking x-rays regularly helps in our efforts to prevent dental diseases.

Why do I have to pre-medicate before coming to the dentist?

During dental treatment, bleeding can occur. As a result, bacteria from the mouth have access to the bloodstream and work their way through the body. This bacterium presents a risk to certain conditions such as hip replacements and transplants. This dose of antibiotics helps to ward off these harmful bacteria. Your doctor recommends pre-medication and we urge you to check with them before your appointment.
